A Role Model For Our Times

In the performer’s new video, “Hold up,” she destroys businesses, smashes car windows and sets off explosions as children cheer. Her song “Formation,” called by some “black power anthem and call to arms,” was performed at Super Bowl 50.  Her lyrics include: “When he fuck me good I take his ass to Red Lobster.”  She is an obvious talent.

Movie Review - EYE IN THE SKY

EYE IN THE SKY is a film is about government and military personnel facing the legal and ethical dilemmas presented by drone warfare.  Although it is a work of fiction is provides an interesting picture of the technology employed against terrorists.  It also illustrates the psychology of the modern military and bureaucratic paralysis.  A drone strike is almost aborted because a young girl may be killed.  This is a stark contrast to 70 years ago when thousands of young girls were destroyed in such places as Dresden, Tokyo, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki.  No one in a position of authority wants to make a decision even though saving the life of this young girl could result in significantly more damage if the suicide bombers are allowed to proceed.  

The bureaucratic paralysis brings to mind Alexander I. Solzhenitsyn’s statement on the decline In courage, “A decline in courage may be the most striking feature that an outside observer notices in the West today. The Western world has lost its civic courage, both as a whole and separately, in each country, in each government, in each political party, and, of course, in the United Nations. Such a decline in courage is particularly noticeable among the ruling and intellectual elites, causing an impression of a loss of courage by the entire society. There are many courageous individuals, but they have no determining influence on public life.” 

Weakness and indecision invite attack.  We live in a dangerous world.  Is spite of Loretta Lynch's belief that love is the answer, people respond to other stimuli.  An example took place in 1985 when four attaches from the Soviet Embassy were kidnapped in Beirut by Muslim extremists.  The Islamic Liberation Organization sent a list of demands to the Soviets and threatened to kill the hostages.  Two days after the kidnapping, the body of one of the four was found, shot in the head.  Less than four weeks later the remaining hostages were released.   The KGB kidnapped a man  who was a close relative of one of the hostages takers.   They then castrated him and sent the severed organs to the extremist official.

The Noble Savage

      The idea of the “noble savage” preceded the philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau.  Rousseau popularized the idea in the 18th century.  He quite possibly based his theory on the behavior of the orang hutan (people of the jungle) or orangutan.  The idea was reaffirmed by Franz Boas, the "Father of American Anthropology.” While studying the Inuit culture in Canada Boas wrote, "I often ask myself what advantages our good society possesses over the savages.  The more I see of their customs, the more I realize that we have no right to look down upon them." Boas’ theory was reinforced by his student, Margaret Mead.  Her Coming of Age in Samoa stressed what she saw as the sexual liberalism of the Samoans.  The noble savage theory has morphed into the basis for multiculturalism.  Multiculturalism is ordained in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples adopted by the General Assembly on 13 September 2007.  It states, “that all doctrines, policies and practices based on or advocating superiority of peoples or individuals on the basis of national origin or racial, religious, ethnic or cultural differences are racist, scientifically false, legally invalid, morally condemnable and socially unjust.”  

      Once it was established that all cultures were equal the next step was to recognize that Western culture was actually inferior.  This theory has been accepted by the leftist elite for quite some time.  Eric Hoffer commented, "Nowhere at present is there such a measureless loathing of their country by educated people as in America.”  Susan Sontag declared the “white race is the cancer of human history.”  The educational establishment has succeeded in brainwashing an entire generation to believe that the West is somehow inferior to the third world.  Dinesh D'Souza has written, “Multicultural textbooks, which are committed to a contemporary version of the noble savage portrait, typically find it difficult to acknowledge historical facts that would embarrass the morality tale of white invaders despoiling the Elysian harmony of the Americas.”
